Giving away soundtracks for Movies

Mark Cuban (Owner of the Dallas Mavericks and blogger) came up with a pretty good idea to increase the number of people who go to the theater to see a movie. His idea is to give away the soundtrack to the movie (download or cd) with the purchase of a ticket. I have to say, it’s one of the best ideas I’ve heard for increasing ticket sales.

Personally, I usually wait until a movie comes out on DVD because it costs less then two tickets to the movie and I can watch it over and over again. Since I have a pretty good theater system, it never really made that big of a difference. However, if I was offered the soundtrack for free, it might make buy a ticket for a movie that I was thinking about going to see in the theaters.

I admit, usually the soundtracks are not exactly “great” music. Still, it offers the consumer something in return for the soaring ticket prices. I hope that the movie studios start thinking outside the box like Mr. Cuban has.
